It's Been a While (Archive Post from April 25, 2020)
Back in mid-January, I saw the early reports of a new virus that had popped up in central China. I got what turned out to be very accurate predictions about what would happen in the coming months from a community of medical academics that I happened to already be following. This information really threw off my groove—basically every new year’s resolution that I made crumbled in light of the preparations that I felt had to be made to be comfortable in the upcoming crisis. For some context, I graduated from college two years ago and make a living as a freelancer, so planning was essential.
This all sounded like crazy prepper nonsense to basically everyone that I tried convincing of the problem, so I just waited until the end of February when the media picked it up. Given how much this has turned our world upside down, I don’t regret that I gave it so much attention, but I do regret not enjoying those last 3-4 weeks before our lives shut down. I was on edge, waiting for the siren to go off. Interestingly, I’ve caught myself feeling jealous of the people who were blissfully unaware of the coming storm.
I put a plan into action and made preparations for the worst-case scenario (which I could happily expound upon in a later post). Thankfully, worst-case hasn’t happened…yet…and it’s long overdue that I get my shit back together and start posting again! I have many little projects that I’ve started since my last post and I hope to make this blog much more than just botanizing and interesting facts.
This pic is of the Texas Wild Onions that I potted and tend to on my balcony garden. This was about two weeks ago when they were flowering and dropping bulbils all over the place. I tried to spread them all over my apartment complex lol. I refuse to harvest them until the pot is full! Might take a few seasons.
